Imagine this scenario....

You come into our office for a routine exam and cleaning and you're already expecting the worst. It's been some time since you've been to the dentist, you brush once a day and your flossing isn't so regular. You brace yourself for bad news... and there isn't any! In a perfect world teeth would stay pearly white, cavities could heal themselves, and we'd be able to eat whatever we want with no consequences! To take it one step further, dentists would be obsolete and we'd find time to focus on our passion for calligraphy and stationary.

Unfortunately, the world is a complicated place. The mouth and gums require routine maintenance whether that's a screening for oral cancer, repairing a broken tooth, healing an aching tooth or just a cleaning; the need for our services isn't decreasing. The percentage of children with untreated cavities ages 5-19 is a staggering 18% and the numbers for adults isn't much better! There is an obvious need for dentists, and we'll keep our ink and calligraphy pen in the desk drawer for a rainy day.

That's where the philosophy of "The Best Dentistry is No Dentistry" comes into practice. We would ALWAYS prefer to do the least amount of treatment to a tooth, keeping the most of the original tooth as possible. When treatment planning cases we always give the option of no treatment. Whether it's a cavity or broken tooth, we always aim to improve your oral health and quality of life.

These decisions aren't made by the dentist alone, it's a conversation with the patient where we listen to your desires and reservations for the proposed treatment, and come to a mutual agreement for the best outcome. Again, the option of no treatment is always on the table, as we NEVER pressure patients to pursue a certain treatment. The choice is always yours.

Believe it or not, it makes our day NOT to propose treatment. It makes our day to see our patients take control of their oral health and to praise them for their good work
