On September 30th, we participated in our first Murphy Maize Days. For those who don't know, it's an annual Fall festival the City of Murphy hosts featuring local business booths, family activities, live music and a firework display at the end of the night. We all had a great time interacting with the community by meeting the families of Murphy, answering questions and handing out give-aways. We look forward to participating next year.
One event that our office sponsored was the "Punkin Chunkin" (hosted by the Murphy Chamber of Commerce). The goal of the game was to launch a pumpkin from an over-sized slingshot 50 feet away to strike targets sponsored by local businesses. People of all ages were attracted to the spectacle of launching pumpkins in the air and watching them crash to the ground. Winners who struck the targets were awarded goody-bags from local businesses. It was a highlight of our day to watch the event. Besides an entertaining spectacle, the game was a benefit for a good cause. The past few years, the Chamber gives away 6 scholarships annually (3 to graduating high school seniors and 3 to local high school teachers) totaling thousands of dollars. Jon Lashbrook from the Chamber has done a great job organizing the scholarships and raising thousands of dollars for education. It's a cause we can get support and are happy to contribute to the community.
We look forward to seeing the community again next year!
